Buffy hamilton response to bakhtin 9 23-02Buffy HamiltonThis document contains Buffy Hamilton's response to reading Bakhtin's "Discourse in the Novel" for the first time. [1] Hamilton struggled to understand the dense text and found the introduction and glossary helpful but still felt unsure. [2] She reflects on some key quotes from Bakhtin about dialogism, heterglossia, and how social and cultural influences shape our language and thoughts. [3] Hamilton connects Bakhtin's ideas to theories from Rosenblatt, Vygotsky, and Dyson about the transactional nature of language and learning within social contexts.

Dante journal entry 5 - completeCNDLS at Georgetown UniversityThis document provides an analysis comparing Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 and Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Both works aim to encompass the universe through music and poetry. While the Symphony has two uneven movements, the Comedy is divided into three carefully arranged parts. Music plays an important role in both works, with pleasing tones in Purgatory and sonorous music in Paradise. The works also similarly use language and invoke the divine through chants and invocations.
Dante Alighieridaiki420Dante Alighieri was a major Italian poet of the late Middle Ages who is best known for writing the Divine Comedy. He fell in love with Beatrice Portinari at a young age and she greatly influenced his writing, appearing as a central figure in the Divine Comedy after her unexpected death. In 1302, Dante was exiled from Florence for political reasons and spent the rest of his life traveling, though his whereabouts during some periods are uncertain. The Divine Comedy has endured as one of the most important works of literature for over 650 years.
The Divine ComedyJose Emmanuel Maningas1) Dante's Divine Comedy is an allegorical poem about a journey through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. It uses these realms and characters within them to represent moral truths and ultimately to help readers prepare for the afterlife.
2) The poem is composed of 100 cantos divided into three parts, following Dante's journey. He passes through nine circles of Hell housing different types of sinners. Purgatory cleanses souls over seven terraces. Heaven is depicted as nine celestial spheres containing angels and the souls of the righteous.
3) The work had a profound influence on Christian thought and literature and aimed to guide people to salvation through vividly depicting the consequences of sin and virtue.
Divine comedy by Dante AlighieriDraizelle SexonThe Divine Comedy is an epic poem by Dante Alighieri written between 1308 and his death in 1321. It describes Dante's journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Heaven (Paradiso) guided by Roman poet Virgil and his ideal woman Beatrice. Each section contains 33 cantos with allegorical descriptions of sins and their punishments. It is considered one of the greatest works of Italian and world literature for its theological depth and complexity.
MyDante and Ellipsis PPTCNDLS at Georgetown UniversityThe document discusses the virtual reading community platform MyDante and its role in engaging students in different levels of understanding Dante's Divine Comedy. It describes three levels of engaging with the text: the literal narrative level, the metaphoric level communicated through Dante's artistic choices, and the reflective level contained in personal responses and dialogue between the poet and reader. It provides positive feedback from students who used MyDante, noting how it added value and time to their class by allowing private reflective journaling and multimedia projects that helped them relate the text to their own lives in a holistic learning experience.
ComedyCOCommunityCollegeSystemProfessor Valerio Ferme gave a lecture on why Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem Divine Comedy remains relevant today. He explained that Dante synthesized a wide range of sources and addressed philosophical and theological questions about life, death, and the afterlife. Dante encouraged civic engagement and questioning one's purpose, which still resonates with modern readers. Ferme argued Dante's work provides a coherent worldview that has influenced many aspects of culture, though modern life feels more fragmented. Dante's examination of themes like love, sin, and humanity's place in the universe continue to prompt self-reflection.

D22-ELIT 46C-S18Brian MaloneThis document summarizes key points from an English literature class. It discusses Jean Rhys' novel Wide Sargasso Sea and how it engages in intertextuality by rewriting Jane Eyre from Bertha Mason's perspective. The professor emphasizes that readers can interpret texts differently and rewrite traditions to explore new possibilities and perspectives not authorized by the original authors. Readers are encouraged to make works more "writerly" by actively participating in constructing meaning rather than passive reception of authorial intent.

It includes details about submitting a final paper, the final exam date and time, participation points, and questions for students. The passage also includes excerpts from Jean Rhys' novel Wide Sargasso Sea and discussion questions about the novel's intertextuality with Jane Eyre and how it expands the fictional universe.
Creating brave spaces at the intersection of womanist biblical scholarship a...Mary HessThis document discusses using womanist biblical scholarship and digital storytelling as pedagogical exercises to create brave spaces for learning. It outlines the risks of using womanist thought instrumentally or in ways that close down meaning-making. The document examines how womanist scholars embody thinking through and by means of others in their work. Digital storytelling is discussed as a participatory practice that could invite transformative learning by empowering readers and challenging assumptions. The goal is to move toward witnessing and engagement with others through community discourse, though the context presents challenges to that.
IdentityClive McGounThe document discusses Sherry Turkle's book "Life on the Screen" which examines how identities are formed and expressed both online and offline. It explores how people experiment with different identities and personalities in virtual spaces like MUDs and online chat rooms. While virtual spaces allow for flexibility and complexity of identity, they can also blur boundaries between reality and fantasy. The document considers both benefits and risks of living part of one's life online and how virtual and real identities intersect.

An Essay On Beauty And JudgmentJoaquin HamadThe document discusses the philosophical notion of beauty and aesthetic judgment, noting that beauty has become a discredited notion. It explores Kant's view that aesthetic judgments are normative claims expecting agreement from others, but how can one justify or expect agreement on judgments of taste when the principles governing aesthetic pleasure cannot be established. The document aims to defend aesthetic judgments while acknowledging the flaws in Kant's argument that aesthetic judgments demand universal agreement.

Document90 (2).pdfBrendaChristian4This document provides an overview of how literary theory can be used to understand and interpret literature. It discusses two specific theories - New Criticism and Feminist Criticism - and how each emerged to address problems in traditional literary analysis. New Criticism focused on close reading of texts themselves rather than external contexts, while Feminist Criticism seeks to understand gender inequality and ways women are oppressed in patriarchal societies by examining portrayals and power dynamics between male and female characters. The document also briefly summarizes the historical context of Guy de Maupassant's short story "The Necklace" and provides rationale for analyzing it using these two theories.
Neiu talkScott GlassThe document discusses different perspectives on how digital technologies and the internet are impacting learning, culture, and society. It notes debates around whether the internet hinders deep thinking or enables widespread participation and innovation. It also discusses practical teaching perspectives on preparing students for a world where learning is interconnected online. Several conclusions are drawn around curating information and the potential for a "renaissance" in read-write culture.
Virtual IdentityClive McGounDoug describes how he is able to split his mind and take on different personas in different chat windows online, engaging in different conversations and activities simultaneously. Turkle notes that children today see computers as able to think and have personality, where adults may still hesitate at the idea of computers having consciousness. On the internet, people can experiment with constructing and reconstructing their identities in ways that characterize postmodern life. Turkle sees virtual spaces as having the potential to be a "raft" or "ladder" that allows one to grow and become more self-aware, though not a complete substitute for reality.

Cons strangers-noanimaeGary HoweThis document discusses the importance of public spaces that encourage interactions between strangers. It notes that meaningful connections can occur in "third places" outside the home and workplace, such as parks, that foster a sense of community. The workshop aimed to get people thinking about how they can meet and learn from "consequential strangers" and the role of intentional place design in facilitating serendipitous encounters between strangers. Participants were asked to share their experiences with meaningful interactions with strangers and discuss what elements make for third places that bring people together.

DanutZbarcea Studies in Material Thinking ReviewDanut ZbarceaThis document summarizes a research project that combined children's drawings found on Flickr with desensitized violent images also found on Flickr. The goal was to generate awareness about the construction of knowledge on the internet and promote more responsible attitudes. Images were combined using image editing software and rephotographed. Each final image aimed to question how violence and fear are learned and normalized through media. The project explored how the internet has become the main source of knowledge and how imagery online can influence identity and learning in both innocent and stereotypical ways.

Blind Spots in AI and Formulation Science Knowledge Pyramid (Updated Perspect...Ajaz HussainThis presentation delves into the systemic blind spots within pharmaceutical science and regulatory systems, emphasizing the significance of "inactive ingredients" and their influence on therapeutic equivalence. These blind spots, indicative of normalized systemic failures, go beyond mere chance occurrences and are ingrained deeply enough to compromise decision-making processes and erode trust.
Historical instances like the 1938 FD&C Act and the Generic Drug Scandals underscore how crisis-triggered reforms often fail to address the fundamental issues, perpetuating inefficiencies and hazards.
The narrative advocates a shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, adaptable systems prioritizing continuous enhancement. Key hurdles involve challenging outdated assumptions regarding bioavailability, inadequately funded research ventures, and the impact of vague language in regulatory frameworks.
The rise of large language models (LLMs) presents promising solutions, albeit with accompanying risks necessitating thorough validation and seamless integration.
Tackling these blind spots demands a holistic approach, embracing adaptive learning and a steadfast commitment to self-improvement. By nurturing curiosity, refining regulatory terminology, and judiciously harnessing new technologies, the pharmaceutical sector can progress towards better public health service delivery and ensure the safety, efficacy, and real-world impact of drug products.
