The document discusses how technology addiction affects today's youth. It notes that while not limited to any age group, certain behaviors expressed on social media dictate how youth interact with each other and the world. Youth are constantly connected to friends and rely on their advice for major decisions. They leverage technology for entertainment and convenience. Brands that engage youth through social features like contests and by inviting them to participate in social issues can gain evangelists among this group.

Internet addiction is described as an impulse control disorder similar to gambling. Some internet users develop emotional attachments to online friends and activities. Symptoms include preoccupation with the internet, increasing time spent online to achieve satisfaction, unsuccessful attempts to control use, mood changes when cutting back, and jeopardizing relationships due to use. Effects include personal, family, academic, and occupational problems as with other addictions as real life relationships are disrupted due to excessive online use. A counselor can assess potential internet addiction and recommend appropriate treatment.
