S.H. Raza was an influential Indian painter known for his use of vibrant colors and incorporation of Indian philosophy in his abstract works. He was born in 1922 in Madhya Pradesh and received his art education in Nagpur, Bombay, and Paris. Though based in France from the 1950s, Raza's paintings represented Indian art and culture. He explored Western modernism and abstraction and was honored with India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, for his contributions to art. Raza's paintings evolved from expressionist landscapes to focus on concepts like the bindu and stories from Hindu scriptures. He passed away in 2016 in New Delhi.
