Angels presenting chronic patellar luxation in cattle.by pavulPavulraj SelvarajPatellar luxation is a non-inflammatory disorder of the femoropatellar articulation in cattle and dogs where the patella is displaced from its normal position. In cattle, it causes jerky limb movements and an extended limb stance. Surgical treatment involves cutting the medial patellar ligament to allow the patella to move freely. In dogs, it causes intermittent lameness and abnormal gaits. Surgical options aim to deepen the trochlear groove or reinforce the lateral soft tissues to stabilize the patella.

Heart Failure in AnimalsOmkar PhadtareThis document discusses heart failure, including its definition, classification, causes, diagnosis, and treatment goals. Heart failure is defined as a clinical syndrome resulting from structural or functional impairment of ventricular filling or ejection. It is classified as systolic or diastolic based on ejection fraction and ventricle size. Causes include coronary artery disease, pressure/volume overload, and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. Diagnosis is based on clinical signs and imaging. Treatment goals are to reduce congestion with diuretics, improve cardiac output with vasodilators and inotropes, and normalize heart rate and rhythm. Prognosis is generally poor with average survival of 6-12 months but quality of life can be maintained
Repeat breeding by Dr Adnan ahmadDr Adnan AhmadThe document discusses repeat breeder syndrome in cows, which is defined as cows that have been bred 3 or more times but not conceived. It outlines various causes of fertilization failure and early embryonic death that can contribute to repeat breeding, including issues with ovulation, sperm and egg quality, uterine infections, nutrition deficiencies, and environmental stresses. Potential treatments discussed include hormones, antibiotics, addressing energy deficiencies, and improving management practices.
Congenital Heart DiseaseupstatevetPresenter: Dr. Andrew Waxman, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Hosted by Upstate Veterinary Specialties
Session Description:
Congenital heart diseases are abnormalities of the cardiovascular system which are present at birth. The exact underlying factors are not always understood but are suspected of genetic origin in dogs and cats. Some of the most common diseases include patent ductus arteriosus, pulmonic stenosis, subaortic stenosis, tricuspid valve dysplasia, and ventricular septal defects. These conditions can vary from innocent to life-threatening. This lecture will help participants understand the examination findings, the most common treatment options (if available), and breeding considerations regarding congenital heart disease in dogs and cats. There will also be some discussion about innocent murmurs in young patients.
Special Considerations For Anesthesia In RuminantsSUNY UlsterThis document discusses recommendations for anesthesia and analgesia in ruminants. It covers potential problems like regurgitation, aspiration, and bloat that can occur due to drugs relaxing protective reflexes. Recommendations include withholding feed before anesthesia, intubating with a cuffed tube, and maintaining lateral recumbency. Proper positioning and padding of pressure points is also emphasized to prevent complications like neuropathy or myopathy.
A Review of Dilated Cardiomyopathy in DogsPet Food ExpertsA presentation by Dr. Renee Streeter, DVM, DACVN, and Dr. Bradley Quest, DVM giving a detailed overview of dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs and what the recent reports from the FDA mean for the pet industry at large.
Induction of parturition & elective termination of pregnancyMahalingeshwara Malithis ppt briefs about induction of parturition and elective termination of pregnancy in farm and pet animals, which may be helpful for the veterinary undergraduates, field veterinarians, and farm managers to extend their knowledge in this aspect.
Veterinary Gastrointestinal surgery Part-III Rekha PathakThe document discusses various gastrointestinal surgical procedures in veterinary medicine, including procedures for treating gastric neoplasms, bloat, and rumen-related issues. Techniques like partial gastrectomy, antrectomy, rumen fistulation, rumenotomy, and rumenostomy are described. Complications from various conditions and the signs, diagnosis, and treatment approaches are also outlined.

Reproductive Physiology and Breeding Management in Bitchsubhash gahlotThe document discusses reproductive physiology and breeding management in bitches. It covers topics like the ovarian cycle, signs of estrus, optimum mating times determined by vaginal cytology and hormones, pregnancy diagnosis and signs of impending parturition. Common reproductive problems mentioned include pyometra, dystocia from uterine inertia, prolonged heat and false pregnancy. Guidelines are provided for breeding management including timing of matings based on the estrous cycle and evaluating pregnancy through ultrasound rather than physical signs alone.
Pyometra in bitchesKaavya SudhakarThis document discusses cystic endometrial hyperplasia and pyometra in dogs. Pyometra occurs when bacteria infects the thickened uterus of female dogs during estrus. It can be open or closed pyometra. Breeds like Irish Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and Miniature Schnauzers are more prone. Progesterone causes endometrial growth and glandular secretions, allowing bacterial overgrowth. Clinical signs differ between open and closed pyometra and include discharge, abdominal distension, lethargy, and vomiting. Treatment involves antibiotics, surgery, and prostaglandin drugs to induce heat cycles and uterine contractions.
Repeat breedingbabasahebkumbharThe document discusses factors that can cause repeat breeding in cattle, which is when a female shows normal heat symptoms but does not conceive after more than 2-3 services. It lists congenital and acquired factors in both females and males that can be responsible, including defects in the genital tract, endocrine disorders, disease, semen quality issues, and nutritional/management deficiencies. It provides examples for each category and recommends treatments like hormones, antibiotics, vitamins, and improved management practices.
Microclimate condition RAJESHKUMARYADAV53The document discusses microclimate conditions and animal management during winter. It recommends several strategies to care for livestock in cold temperatures, including modifying shelters with curtains and trimming trees, providing adequate bedding, ensuring good ventilation, cleaning animals regularly, avoiding clipped hair or cold baths, feeding a nutritious diet including berseem fodder and concentrate mixtures with minerals and salt, and deworming animals. The goal is to protect animals' health and support production through proper environmental management and care during winter.
