Structure
Structure: independent clause + adjective clause.
adjective clause, + independent clause.
Adjective clause
Adjective clause is dependent clause that functions as an adjective. That is, it
modifies and describe (give more information) a noun or pronoun.
The first thanksgiving fest in the United States, which took place in 1621, lasted three
days.

12. Activity 1
Direction: Listen to the audio and complete the statements.
A nuclear power plant is a type of ______________ that
generates ___________ using heat from nuclear reactions. These reactions take place within
a reactor. The plant also has machines which remove heat from the reactor to operate a
__________________ and generator to make electricity. ____________ made by nuclear
power plants is called nuclear power.
Nuclear power plants are usually near water to remove the heat the reactor makes.
Some nuclear power plants use ________________ to do this. Nuclear power plants use
uranium as _______. When the reactor is on, Uranium atoms inside the reactor split into two
____________ atoms. When uranium atoms split, they give off a large amount of heat. This
splitting of atoms is called ___________.
The most popular atoms to fission are Uranium and Plutonium. Those atoms are
slightly ____________. The atoms produced when fuel atoms ________________ are strongly
radioactive. Today, fission only happens in nuclear reactors. In nuclear reactors, fission only
happens when the reactors parts are arranged properly. Nuclear power plants turn their
reactors off when ____________ old nuclear fuel with new fuel.
There are about ______________ nuclear power plants in the world, with many in
the United States, France, and Japan. Some famous ___________ at nuclear power plants
were the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, 1986 Chernobyl ___________ in Ukraine,
and the 1979 Three Mile Island accident in the United States.
13. Activity 2
Direction: Work in pair. Read the following statements and listen to the audio. Choose T if
they are true or F if they are false.
____________1) A nuclear power plant generates electricity using the wind.
____________2) The machines work is to remove heat from the reactor.
____________3) Nuclear power is electricity which is made by nuclear power plant.
____________4) Uranium atoms in the reactor will form into bigger atoms, when the reactor
is on.
____________5) Uranium atoms split produce a large amount of energy.
____________6) Fission is the process of splitting of atoms.
____________7) Uranium and Plutonium are hardly used to fission because those atoms are
slightly radioactive.
____________8) The atoms become strongly radioactive when fuel atoms break.
____________9) Nowadays, there are about four hundred nuclear power plants.
____________10) Nuclear power plants accidents took place at Japan, Ukraine and the
United States.

16. Text 3
Nuclear plant energy
A nuclear power plant is a type of power station that generates electricity using heat
from nuclear reactions. These reactions take place within a reactor. The plant also has
machines which remove heat from the reactor to operate a steam turbine and generator to
make electricity. Electricity made by nuclear power plants is called nuclear power.
Nuclear power plants are usually near water to remove the heat the reactor makes.
Some nuclear power plants use cooling towers to do this. Nuclear power plants
use uranium as fuel. When the reactor is on, Uranium atoms inside the reactor split into two
smaller atoms. When uranium atoms split, they give off a large amount of heat. This splitting
of atoms is called fission.
The most popular atoms to fission are Uranium and Plutonium. Those atoms are
slightly radioactive. The atoms produced when fuel atoms break apart are strongly
radioactive. Today, fission only happens in nuclear reactors. In nuclear reactors, fission only
happens when the reactors parts are arranged properly. Nuclear power plants turn their
reactors off when replacing old nuclear fuel with new fuel.
There are about four hundred nuclear power plants in the world, with many in the
United States, France, and Japan. Some famous accidents at nuclear power plants were the
2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, 1986 Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine, and the
1979Three Mile Island accident in the United States.

Group 3: Nuclear power plant is better than other energy sources.
Group 4: It is good to build nuclear power plant in Thailand.
Expressions for discussion
Expression an opinion:
If you ask me,
(Personally), I think
If you want my opinion,
Conceding an argument:
Perhaps youre right.
Ok, you win.
Youve convinced me.
Strong agreement:
Absolutely.
I couldnt agree more.
I totally agree.
I agree.
Hedging:
I take your point, but
Yes, but
Qualified agreement:
Thats partly true.
On the whole, yes.
Id go along with that.
Strong disagreement:
I dont agree.
On the contrary
I totally disagree.

Hi there!
I'm really missing you. I hope you are alright. I wrote to you because I really
need your help. The government decided to build a nuclear power plant in my
hometown! I don't know what nuclear power is. Is it dangerous? I'm really scared!
Could you tell me what nuclear power is? How does it work? Please write back to
me as soon as you can.
Your friend,
Danni

34. Activity 2
Direction: Draw a simple diagram of your power plant which uses fuel or natural energy
source in your local. Write a paragraph to describe your power plant using the example
below. Use at least 5 adjective clauses to give details.
Example
In my home town, there are so many hays that nobody wants. But we can make
use of these hays by building a power plant which uses hays as fuels. While hays are
burning, it will give heat energy which will boil the water. Hot water will turns in to steam
that operate the turbine which is connected to the generator. And the generator will
produce electricity to our village. Now we will have cheap energy from hays in our village.
