To publish the items online, the archive used fair use because obtaining permission from all copyright holders was not feasible. For photographs and posters, the archive contacted creators when possible to obtain licenses. While some items were removed at the request of copyright holders, the project was overall well-received by fans and creators and faced no legal claims of copyright infringement.
