- 2. Our History It was the summer of 1997, and Jara Gruber was at the Jersey shore by herself. She was wading in the water when she suddenly felt something tickling her leg. She realized after a few seconds that whatever it was began sucking on her leg. It twisted around her leg, twisting the life out of Jara, trying to eat her. Jaimie Bandur, a young innocent bystander, was visiting the shore with her family. The young girl took heroic actions to save Jara’s life. Jaimie dashed into the water with her plastic sand shovel and began to repeatedly whack the tentacle. A giant squid swam away. Luckily, Jara was not seriously hurt, and was thankful that her life was saved. The two girls quickly became friends and bonded over Italian food and the Jersey shore. In 2002, the dynamic duo opened Guberici’s a family-style Italian restaurant to remember their special summer, and to help Jara get over her fear of giant squid. lasdkjf home
