Dressmakers
Shears
It is made up of quality steel and
holds a sharp cutting edge. Shears
has a length of 7-12 inches, the
blade moves easily and cut finely
along the entire length of the
fabric.
A tool used to cut fabrics. It is made
up of quality steel and holds a sharp
cutting edge.

Pinking Shears
It is commonly known for its
zigzag or scallop edge finishings.
This is not satisfactory for cutting
straight lines.
This tool is used to finished raw
edges of a fabric to prevent from
raveling.

Buttonhole scissor
It is a scissors that has a small
screw which you can turn in order
to adjust the blade. These scissors
also have notches on their blade.
This tool is intended to use in
cutting a buttonhole.

Thread Clipper
Some clippers looks like ancient
types of scissors because of the
blades that are held by a bent
piece of metal.
It is used for nipping or cutting
excess thread and some parts of the
fabric that have frayed or
unraveled.

Seam Ripper
It is a small sewing tool, the most
common form of a seam ripper
consists of a handle, shaft and
head.
It is specially designed for ripping
out or removing stitches from
seams.

 a piece of hard chalk and
comes in various colors
and removed by
brushing.
 used in dressmaking for
making temporary marks
on the fabric.

 chalk pencil consists of a
plastic brush on the end
of the attached cap.
 used to make an accurate
marking on the fabric.

Tracing wheel
 it is made of wood or
plastic long handle and a
rotating wheel with
spikes on the end.
 used to transfer marks on
both sides of the fabric
accurately.

Dressmaker’s Carbon Paper
 a specially waxed carbon
paper, also called as
dressmaker’s tracing paper.
NOTE: A color of tracing paper
should be chosen wisely based on
the color of the fabric.
 waxed carbons paper that
transfer the tracing wheel’s
markings on the fabric

Thimble
 a small hard pitted cap
worn around the finger.
 for protection and pushes
the needle in sewing.

Pin Cushion
 a small stuffed cushion,
typically 3-5 cm in size
or about 1.2-2.0 inches
across.
 used to keep the needle
and pins in place.

Pin
 a small piece of solid metal
which comes in various length
and thickness, it also have
different pinheads, materials,
and tips.
 used to hold temporarily the
fabric in place when attaching
and cutting patterns, or while
sewing.

Hand Sewing Needle
 needles were made of
bone or wood; modern
needles are made of high
carbon steel wire.
 used for basting, sewing
buttons on, and mending
torn cloths.

Thread
 are tightly twisted fibers
which comes in various
sizes and colors.
 used for assembling and
constructing the parts of
a garments in sewing.

Emery bag
 small bag, often the size
and shape of a strawberry
filled with emery power.
 used to sharpen needles
and pins.

Ironing board
 a flat cloth-covered board
or other surface, often
foldable that has a
rounded point at the end.

Flat Iron
 a small appliance that consists
of a handle and a solid flat
metal base. Generally it range
from 250 °F (121°C) to 360 °F
(182 °C).
 device used to remove the
wrinkles on the fabrics.

Sleeve board
 small-scaled ironing board
which has a narrow board that
fits inside a coat sleeve.
 used for pressing sleeves
which has a narrow board that
fits inside a coat sleeve.
