We held our second annual writing workshop this summer for Junior High and High School students in Chanleas Dai. The workshop was facilitated by Ream Nuon, who has recently published a few short stories of his own. During the workshop, the students studied the foundations of writing and drawing. After learning the basics of storytelling, students wrote and illustrated their own adventures. By the end of the workshop, the students had created 12 original short stories. Over the next year we��ll be sharing all these stories with you, translated from Khmer to English, as a regular feature of our monthly newsletter. First up is Paung Paung��s Dream, a story which inspires us all to pursue our dreams, no matter how far-fetched they may seem��

The fox tricks the bear into putting his tail in the freezing pond at night to catch fish. When the bear pulls his tail out in the morning, it has frozen to the ice and part of it has been torn off, causing him great pain. The fox laughs at the bear for falling for her trick and escapes unharmed when the bear tries to get revenge. The bear is left tired, angry, and with part of his tail missing due to the fox's deception.

They sent birds to retrieve fire from other mountains, but the first bird disappeared and the second drowned. Donations will still support these programs which will remain similar, though under new local governance.

1) PEPY's Creative Learning Class and English Class programs at Chanleas Dai Junior High School will transition out in order to expand programs that help students access further education and jobs. 2) Efforts to handover the Creative Learning Class to the school were unsuccessful due to poor teacher attendance and engagement. 3) The Dream Class program will also end at the Junior High School due to low enrollment, but will expand to serve more students at Kralanh High School.

Coco the bear cub helped a baby monkey learn to walk in the forest but later got lost in an unfamiliar part of the woods. While searching for water, Coco fell into a fast-moving stream and struggled to escape, failing to pull himself to safety with grass or a vine. Exhausted, Coco was swept downstream until he was rescued from the water by a group of monkeys, including the baby monkey he had previously helped. Coco thanked the monkeys and promised his mother he would no longer wander off alone.

A butterfly & A beePEPY Empowering Youth

The butterfly asks the bees to share some of their nectar, but they refuse and tell it to find its own food. Unable to find any flowers, the butterfly rests under a tree exhausted. It sees a baby bee shivering in the rain and shelters it, later returning the baby to its parents. The grateful bee family then invites the butterfly to collect food from flowers with them, and from that point on butterflies and bees become good friends.
