02/2014 to present, OPERATIONS SCHEDULE COORDINATOR/FLEET LIAISON,
E-7, United States Navy, U.S. Seventh Fleet Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF),
Yokosuka, Japan, 40 hours per week, $51,886/year, Vernon Bertelson, 315-243-

OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT: Manage over 610 training and assessment requests from
19 ships; identify scheduling conflicts and provide cost effective solutions to meet the
needs of all ship requests with minimal training regrets. Ensure all FDNF ships are at
their highest possible state of readiness. Perform training curriculum development
activities. Manage program evaluation and performance measurement projects with a
focus on training effectiveness and organizational performance measures. Research and
analyze exercises and training activities. Propose changes to improve learning
effectiveness and job performance.
LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION: Provide comprehensive leadership, management,
and direction to 22 Sailors. Mentored them to provide outstanding customer service and
exceed organizational goals and objectives, offering advice and instruction as needed.
Provide disciplinary actions when warranted, and handle the rare employee complaints
and group grievances. Provide mentoring, coaching, direction and training to a staff with
widely diverse skill sets; embody EEO principles and diversity objectives in all actions.
Exercise tact and discretion at all times even under stressful circumstances.
ORAL COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Evaluate and present
information frequently involving complex and controversial matters in a concise,
articulate, persuasive, and knowledgeable fashion. Conduct formal and informal
presentations, speeches, conferences, one-on-one discussions, telephone inquiries,
training sessions, and briefings. Facilitate communications and activities between
organizational entities. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with
other branches of the military, government agencies, high level officials, subordinates
and peers. Routinely work with external management officials to resolve unique or
complex issues involving immigration issues. Build rapport while interacting with peers,
immediate supervisor, associates, various levels of external customers, and high-ranking
officials (both internal and external).
