Dolmabah?e Palace in Istanbul, Turkey was the main administrative center of the Ottoman Empire and later became the presidential residence for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. The massive palace took five million gold coins to construct and features over 285 rooms, ornate gold decorations, and one of the largest crystal chandeliers in the world. Atatürk spent his last days at the palace before passing away there in 1938.
