4年間で卒業できるか否かが、何によって決定されるのかを探った。具体的には、特定の大学の卒業生のデータを一部抽出し、4年間でストレート卒業した学生と、4年間でストレート卒業しなかった学生の2群に対する判別分析を行い、両群の差が何に起因するのかを推測した。
結果として、全学ベースではなく学部学科ベースでの議論が適切であることや、入試種別が一部の学部学科を除いてストレート卒業の可否にあまり関係していないこと等がわかった。
